The probe follows an online complaint alleging an individual in a Chicago fire apparatus pulled down a Black Lives Matter banner on a fence in the city's Kenwood neighborhood.

The Chicago Fire Department is investigating a complaint posted online alleging that an individual in a department apparatus pulled down a Black Lives Manner along a roadside over the weekend.

According to a post by Dr. Adele Cobbs on the Nextdoor social media platform, the incident happened just before 11 a.m. Saturday along a road near Lake Shore Drive in the city's Kenwood neighborhood, the Chicago Tribune reports. She told the Tribune that she saw someone exit the passenger side of the apparatus and remove the banner from a chain-link fence.

“I stuck up my arms and said, ‘Why?‘” Cobb told the Tribune, adding that someone honked the apparatus horn in response.

Cobb took a photo of the apparatus, and the vehicle in the image belongs to Station 45 in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood.Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford told the Tribune that the department had reached out to Cobb about her complaint.

“The conduct described in the allegation will not be tolerated by the Chicago Fire Department,” Langford said in a statement.
