ME Firefighters Cleared to Wear Shirts Supporting US Troops

Sept. 27, 2020
Bangor's firefighters union had objected to the fire department's earlier edict that prohibited firefighters from wearing T-shirts supporting American troops.

After Bangor’s firefighter’s union criticized the fire department’s bosses on Friday for refusing to allow firefighters to wear T-shirts that the union calls supportive of American troops, the department has changed their position.

The International Association of Fire Fighters Local 772 took to Facebook to let supporters know that firefighters’ wearing of the R.E.D. “Remember Everyone Deployed” shirts had been approved by Fire Chief Tom Higgins.

“Because of YOUR efforts the City and Local 772 have reinstated the R.E.D shirt tradition,” according to the statement. “The City and the Fire Chief made it clear they support our military and the military members of our department.”

The statement continued on to say that firefighters are working on a platform where the shirts can be sold to the general public.
