SAFER, FP&S Grants' Application Period Opens May 23

FEMA announced $360 million has been earmarked for SAFER and $36 million for Fire Prevention and Safety grants.

Applications for two federal grant programs for fire and EMS departments will be accepted from 9 a.m. May 23 through July 3.

FEMA announced Tuesday that $360 million in Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) funding has been earmarked to help departments hire staffing. 

Also, $36 million has been allocated for the Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) grant program. The money is used for a number of projects including fire prevention, firefighter safety and health and research related to keeping emergency personnel safe.

The application period for both the FY24 SAFER and FP&S programs will open at 9 a.m. ET on May 23, 2025, and close on July 3, 2025, at 5 p.m. ET.
