CentreLearn Solutions, LLC, the leading provider of online continuing education for EMS and Fire-Rescue personnel through its online training system, is a sponsor for the rapidly approaching 2014 York Can-Am Police-Fire Games.
The eight-day event will feature nearly 60 events from archery to wrestling and will be held in various locations throughout York County, Pennsylvania from July 13 - 20, 2014.
“I am excited to volunteer at the Can-Am Games in York! The York area is home for many CentreLearn staff and we are happy to support such dedicated first-responders and athletes,” said Amy Akczinski, Account Manager at CentreLearn. EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, and police officers need to be operational athletes to perform their jobs effectively and safely.
The CentreLearn Training System offers online training courses that allow emergency responders to train on duty, as individuals or as a group, which frees up valuable time for on or off duty fitness and wellness activities. The CentreLearn course catalog includes online courses on functional fitness, ergonomics, lifting and back safety, sports medicine, and many more.
The Can-Am Games give EMS, Fire, Police, and First Responders the chance to showcase their skills and compete in a variety of events across York County. The Games will feature sporting events, including traditional athletic competitions such as swimming, softball, golf, and cycling as well as industry-specific events such as SWAT, toughest firefighter alive and toughest competitor alive.
New to the Games for 2014 are an EMS challenge, a revamped Public Safety Motorcycle competition, and an Olympic lifting event which will take place at the York Barbell Company, home of the United States Weightlifting Hall of Fame. The Games are free to the public and offer great competition for those who participate.
All proceeds from the Can-Am Games benefit a charity chosen by the host city. York has selected the Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia to receive all proceeds.
During the week of the Games, various social events will be held throughout York County for everyone to take part. The Opening Ceremonies will be held July 13th at the York Expo Center from 6-8 p.m.
The Ceremony will include Pipe and Drum Groups, Honor Guards, unique Emergency Apparatus, and the lighting of the torch by a Make-A-Wish recipient. A special performance will be conducted by the Lancers Alumni Drum & Bugle Corps.
After the opening ceremonies, join York County First Responders on the infield where you will be able to get an up close view of the Emergency Apparatus.
Cost is $5 for adults, and children 12 and under are free. Use this link to purchase opening ceremony tickets. Akczinski added, “I hope to see you at the Games! If you are not able to compete, there are still many volunteer opportunities available. This is a great way to give back to our community and thank the men and women who support us daily.”
