A firefighter applicant shortage has led five Northeast Ohio communities to try increasing their shrinking pools with a single entrance exam.

A shortage of firefighter applicants has led five Northeast Ohio communitiesSouth Euclid, Lyndhurst, Pepper Pike, Mayfield Heights and Highland Heights—to try increasing their shrinking pools by hosting a single entrance exam on Dec. 12.

"It's a credit to our civil service commissions of all five cities that they got together and hammered out the framework to present this as a regional option," Lyndhurst Mayor Patrick Ward told News 5 Cleveland.
