New Signs Help IL Firefighters Spot Addresses

Jan. 18, 2019
Black-and-orange signs are being offered to Richland County residents in an effort to eliminate poorly displayed home addresses.

For firefighters in a rural Illinois county, finding addresses during emergency calls proved difficult, especially at night. Some Richland County homes either had poorly displayed numbers, while some didn't even show addresses.

But the Olney Fire Department, as well as other departments in the county, hope new black-and-orange address signs will help eliminate that problem, WTHI-TV reports. The Richland County 9-1-1 board donated 500 signs for residents to start the program, and the board is donating another 500 to keep it going.

So far, more than 400 Richland County residents have signed up for the signs, the TV station added.
