A new state law will potentially provide more support to the families of Colorado firefighters and police officers injured or killed in the line of duty.

Under the new measure, which was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Jared Polis, gives more leeway to the Colorado Fire and Police Association Pension Board to adjust contributions in order to better help families, KCNC-TV reports. The fund also gradually will be increased over the next 10 years.
