A veteran Oklahoma firefighter is accused of being involved in multiple bank robberies, according to authorities.
Tulsa Fire Capt. Jerry Brown was arrested Monday in connection with a series of bank robberies in Skiatook and Sperry, KOKI-TV reports. Brown, who has been with Tulsa Fire Department for 17 years, has been placed on administrative leave.
Tulsa police detained Brown at a fire department facility. Skiatook police officers then took him into custody in connection with the March 12 robbery of the Oklahoma Capitol Bank, the fire department said in a statement, according to KOKI.
The second robbery was at the Exchange Bank in Sperry, according to the department.
Investigators had received calls concerning Brown's behavior and business activities. The FBI then was brought into the investigation.
"The Tulsa Fire Department takes allegations of this kind very seriously and is fully committed to working with law enforcement as they continue to investigate this matter," the department stated. "The Tulsa Fire Department holds our responsibility to the citizens of Tulsa in high regard. We continually strive to offer the absolute best life safety, incident stabilization, and property conservation services in the Tulsa community. We expect our employees to act in a manner that continuously builds upon public trust we have worked so hard to obtain."
