A North Carolina firefighter recently set the unofficial Guinness World Record for burpees.

Raleigh firefighter Nick Christopoulos did 5,297 burpees Sunday, a feat that began when he started doing 100 reps of the exercise for every call at his station, WTVD-TV reports

"The day I started, I did 1,300 in one day," he told the TV station.

While he was training, the burpee was broken twice and added 600 more reps to the mark. The new goal fueled Christopoulos and pushed him to train harder.

Christopoulos originally had wanted to set the record at his firehouse, but the pandemic scrubbed that idea. A friend, however, suggested using his gym, which was not air-conditioned when he went on his record-setting tear.

"It was as it sounds, awful, yeah," he told WTVD.

Now, Christopoulos is waiting for the paperwork to make his record official, WTVD added.
