South Carolina firefighters brightened the days of young patients at a children's hospital this week.
Taking advantage of relaxed COVID-19 restrictions in the state, Greenville firefighters climbed ladders to pop in on some surprised patients at Shriners Hospital on Tuesday, WSPA-TV reports. The first responders brought toy firefighter hats with them, and they were able to give the boys and girls—many of them patients receiving specialized orthopedic treatment at the hospital—special peeks inside department apparatus.
“One of out employees just asked if they could donate some fun hats to the kids to brighten their day, and they took it and ran with it from there," Trana Pittam, the hospital's director of marketing and communications, told WSPA. "They volunteered to actually come and visit the patients in a special, socially distanced format,”
Pittam said the children were very excited for the visit, especially given the pandemic and the health challenges they face. The hospital will be holding a vitual Walk for Love even in November.
