A veteran Oklahoma City Fire Department major was disciplined Friday after he used his apparatus to transport a badly burned pediatric patient last month.
Maj. Corey Britt, who has been with the department for 25 years, made the decision to transport the patient after waiting at the scene for 20 minutes for an Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA) ambulance.
“We don’t transport patients,” Fire Chief Richard Kelley told KFOR.com. “That’s not our job.”
Britt was relieved as a senior company officer at Station 34 during the hearing.
The complaint against Britt came from EMSA, which provides EMS transport services in Oklahoma City.
