Chico, CA, Chief Pitches Need for Half Dozen Firefighters

June 3, 2025
The ever-growing population and increasing call volume were cited by Chico Fire Chief Steve Standridge.

Chico Fire Chief Steve Standridge will be making a pitch to city leaders for a half dozen firefighters.

Standridge cites increased call volume and the ever-growing population as reasons for his request.

The addtional firefighters would help his department maintain staffing levels, Action News Now reported, adding that the positions would offset overtime costs.

Two replacement engines are scheduled to arrive later this year or next while a new ladder truck should be in town by the end of the year.

If the council gives his proposal a thumbs-up, the new firefighters will start in January.
