A drug investigation at Copperas Cove Fire Department has culminated with an indictment of a firefighter.

When the allegations about drug use surfaced early last month, two captains and two firefighters were placed on administrative leave, City Manager Ryan Haverlah said at a press conference Tuesday, KCEN reported.

Since then, three firefighters were fired and one resigned.

While the initial probe centered around two firefighters, two others were implicated. It was confirmed that one did take drugs at the station while on duty.

But the manager said that the firefighter under the influence of drugs was not assigned to an ambulance at the time.

One firefighter was indicted by a Coryell County Grand Jury for illegal possession of controlled drugs. The city didn't name the firefighter facing criminal charges or the others who are no longer with the department due to violations of city policies.
