Two Montgomery County firefighters have been criminally charged for flooding a baseball field in July.

Capt. Christopher Reilly and Firefighter Alan Barnes were charged with malicious destruction of property and disorderly conduct. They have court dates in October, WRC reported.

Barnes backed the engine out of the station on University Boulevard and video shows Reilly standing on top of the engine, spraying the field for approximately three minutes. Thousands of gallons of water saturated the diamond.

Reilly told two players who went to the station to complain: “I wanted to get your attention.”

He also told officers with the Maryland National Capital Park Police he did it out of “frustration due to repeated incidents involving baseballs striking personal vehicles […]” and equipment.

The game that involved a team from Virginia was cancelled due to field conditions.

Reilly and Barnes have been removed from operations and placed in roles where they have no public contact, fire officials told reporters.
