Daytona Beach, FL, Deputy Fire Chief Racked up $14K in Overtime in Six Weeks
A Daytona Beach battalion chief -- now the deputy chief -- collected more than $14,000 in overtime in six weeks.
Payroll documents show between May 27 and July 8, 2023, Battalion Chief Jessica Matthews received her regular pay as well as overtime, WFTV reported.
In a statement, Fire Chief Dru Driscoll said overtime was authorized by her immediate supervisor at the time, Deputy Fire Chief McCormack, who retired at the end of the year.
He added that Matthews worked on specific projects including the development of a field training officer manual, creating a professional development plan and revision of the probationary firefighter program as well as other policies and procedures.
"These tasks were significant and time-intensive, reflecting Chief Matthews’ selfless commitment and tireless work ethic, as well as her dedication to improving services and fostering career development for the men and women of our department," he wrote in a statement to the media.
