Off-Duty Glendale, CA, Firefighter Charged with Killing Wife with Axe
An off-duty Glendale firefighter who helped battle the Palisades Fire, is accused of using an axe to kill his wife.
Glendale Firefighter/Paramedic Andrew Jimenez, 45, is being held on $2 million bail.
Jimenez walked into a Los Angeles police station about 4 a.m. Wednesday and asked officers to do a welfare check on his wife, KTLA reported.
Officers found Mayra Jimenez, 55, bludgeoned to death with an axe.
A neighbor who was upset by the incident told reporters: "I could just hear them talk about how horrific it was...it was just bloody. Next thing you know...They said they found an axe."
Jimenez, who has been with the department since 2008, was placed on administrative leave.
Following the arrest, Glendale fire officials wrote in a statement: “This is an extremely serious and deeply troubling matter. First and foremost, our hearts are with the victim’s family and loved ones, and we extend our sincere condolences as they grieve this tragic loss."
An attorney representing the firefighter issued a statement: “Our office is currently in contact with law enforcement regarding a diary of the decedent, apparently read moments before the homicide, that verified infidelity by the decedent.”
