Philadelphia Medic Charged with Stealing from Deceased Patient
A former Philadelphia paramedic is due back in court this week to face charges for stealing cash from a deceased patient last year.
Gary Robb, 41, of Philadelphia, is charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and official oppression.
"The alleged incident is an egregious misuse of power. The men and women of the Philadelphia Fire Department are trusted public servants, and nothing alleged here diminishes the importance or integrity of their work. We will aggressively pursue the facts to ensure accountability and justice," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said told NBC Philadelphia.
The charges came after the victim's sister reviewed a surveillance video and saw Robb stealing money from a wallet and putting it into his pocket, court records show, adding the relative had given her about $200 before her death.
Although a bank card was missing, it was not used.
Another medic on the call for the unresponsive woman told officers Robb, her mentor, explained he was taking the victim's identification card when he took her wallet, according to the criminal complaint.
