Two-thirds of Wales firefighters have quit citing leadership issues.

When Fire Chief Scott Dimmick didn't step down last week, five firefighters resigned. Since then, six more have hung up their gear.

Select Board Chair Eric Gagnon told WGME a Portland law firm has been hired to investigate the firefighters' claims that Dimmick isn't qualified to lead the department.

Neither Dimmick nor the the firefighters who walked out would speak to the media.

"We want answers. Our fire department that we had was dedicated to the townspeople. And we have lost all of that," said Brenda Gordon, a resident.
