Navarre Beach, FL, Fire Chief Fired after Cocaine Test
Navarre Beach Fire Rescue District has a new person at the helm -- temporarily -- following the termination of the chief.
Former Fire Chief Daniel Fureigh was fired Friday for violating probation after testing positive for cocaine, WEAR reported.
Fureigh was on probation after his conviction on reckless driving. He was originally charged with driving under the influence.
Pace Assistant Chief Jonathan Kanzigg was appointed to wear the white helmet by a unanimous vote of the district's fire board.
"I was not looking for a job. So I was very content and happy just doing just enjoying my life. But this opportunity came out very quick. my wife and i talked and prayed about it. We decided we were going to go for it."
Kanzigg says he doesn't know if he'll apply to be the permanent chief.
