Salt Lake City Firefighter Dies Off-Duty While BASE Jumping

Gabe Reilly, a Salt Lake City firefighter, died during a BASE jump in Millville Canyon.

Salt Lake City Fire Department announced that one of its firefighters died while off duty in a BASE jumping accident. 

Gabe Reilly, 27, was killed during the jump Sunday in Millville Canyon in Cache County.

According to Fox13Now, officials said Reilly was with a group of eight to 10 who all jumped nearly 700 feet. Reilly was wearing a a jump wingsuit at the time.

"...Something went wrong and he did not have enough lift with his wingsuit," The Cache County Sheriff's office told KSL.com. 

"Gabe proudly served the Salt Lake City Fire Department for the past four years, following in the footsteps of his father, who retired from SLCFD in 2024," the department shared on Facebook. "Gabe was known for his infectious smile, kind heartedness, and his free-spirited nature. Gabe’s commitment to the department, his fellow firefighters, and the community will not be forgotten."
