Recording Sexual Encounter Lands Warwick, RI, Firefighter on Paid Leave

Warwick Firefighter Matthew Cavanagh, 35, was charged with video voyeurism.

A Warwick firefighter, accused of recording himself having a sexual encounter with a woman, has been suspended.

Matthew Cavanagh, 35, charged with video voyeurism, was released on $50,000 personal recognizance, WJAR reported.

Cavanagh, who has been with the department since 2016, is accused of using a cellphone to record sexual actions with a 27-year-old woman on Oct. 12.

Due to the IAFF contract with Warwick, Cavanagh is on paid administrative leave.

“There’s no cause or reasons for somebody to do that. He shouldn’t be paid while he’s under investigation. You know, especially for that,” Karla Auch, a resident told reporters.
