A five-alarm blaze destroyed the historic Egremont Inn in the Berkshires early this morning (Dec. 11), and firefighter nearly a dozen departments in Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut responded, according to WWLP-TV.
Fire crews were called to the 250-year-old inn on Old Sheffield Road around 5 a.m. and when they arrived, the three-story, wooden building was engulfed in flames.
Officials told the news station that firefighters had a tough time battling the blaze because the water kept freezing due to cold temperatures.
There were no reported injures.
Officials also told the WWLP-TV that the cause of the fire is not yet determined but that the State Fire Marshal has been call in to investigate.
