On June 6, 2012, the Space Shuttle Enterprise is pushed North up the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey on its way to its place on the retired aircraft carrier USS Intrepid. The space shuttle will be on display soon. This location is 1½ blocks from the closest FDNY firehouse, the quarters of Rescue 1, the first rescue company in America, which will celebrate its centennial in 2015. Atop a transport jet a few weeks earlier, the Space Shuttle took a low-level sightseeing trip over the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area before landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport, where it was offloaded onto the barge that would bring it to the Intrepid. The Enterprise was the first space shuttle orbiter. It was used in numerous tests, but never flew in space.

HARVEY EISNER was named Editor Emeritus of Firehouse® after serving 15 years as Firehouse's Editor-in-Chief. He joined the Tenafly, NJ, Fire Department in 1975 and served as chief of department for 12 years. He was a firefighter in the Stillwater, OK, Fire Department for three years while attending Oklahoma State University. Eisner was an honorary assistant chief of the FDNY and program director for the Firehouse Expo, Firehouse World and Firehouse Central conferences. He covered many major fires and disasters and interviewed numerous fire service leaders for Firehouse®
