Photo Story: Fire Damages N.C. Garage

On Sept. 1, a house fire was reported at 4809 Gun Powder Lane in northeast Raleigh.

Engine 19 arrived at a two-story, wood-frame dwelling to find heavy fire was showing from the rear of the house. They caught their own hydrant at the corner, and "laid in wet."

They found a detached two-story garage behind the home with heavy fire venting from the first floor. Two lines were pulled for a transitional attack and then interior extinguishment.

Dispatched at 1:48 p.m., the fire was controlled at 2:15 p.m. The cause was determined as accidental.

The garage contained two classic cars. The occupant was performing maintenance on a vehicle, when gasoline fumes ignited. He suffered minor burns to his arm, but was not transported.

One firefighter suffered a lower back injury and was transported for further examination.

Wake County EMS provided medical monitor and rehab.
