While responding to a Red Oak house fire on Dec. 7, firefighters were advised that a homeowner may have re-entered the burning structure.
Nash County 911 received a phone call reporting a farm house on fire on Halifax Road and fire departments from Red Oak, West Mount and Nashville along with Nash County EMS Units were dispatched.
The homeowner's daughter called and said the man may have re-entered the home. Units responding could see a large column of smoke in the sky.
Red Oak crews reported a working fire in a one-story frame house that was situated about 3,000 feet off the main road.
Firefighters stretched a 1 3/4-inch hoseline and began looking for the occupant. They made a quick check and found that the occupant had exited the burning building.
The first line was deployed to the B/C side of the building where heavy fire was showing and they made an exterior attack.
A quick exterior knock was made allowing fire fighters to make an interior attack and they had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes.
The occupant was checked by EMS and found to be okay and.
Firefighters remained on the scene for a couple of hours hitting hot spots and overhauling.
The Nash County Fire Marshal's is investigating the cause.
