The VFIS has redesigned its website to make it easier for emergency service organizations (ESO) to access more than 200 safety resources, communiques, videos and training tools. The new site features an easy to navigate interface, intuitive search function and responsive viewing across all browsers and devices. Visitors are encouraged to download materials, utilize the self-assessments within their own department and have thoughtful discussions with their personnel after viewing Tailboard Safety videos.
VFIS President Troy Markel said, “not only has VFIS been a pioneer of insurance for emergency service organizations, we’ve also had an unwavering focus on education, training and risk control. We’ve trained over 175,000 ESO members in the past decade and have users accessing VFIS University courses daily. It was only logical to continue providing these materials online.”
Visitors can find updated information about VFIS insurance products and coverages, applications, agent and broker locations, claims handling, VFIS University and on-site training courses on the site as well. There is also specialized information for agents and brokers looking to partner with VFIS.

Pierce Manufacturing Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company, has announced an order for six Pierce Dash CF custom fire and emergency vehicles from the Central County Fire & Rescue Fire Protection District (CCFR) in Saint Peters, MO. The order represents a full fleet replacement of Pierce vehicles that have served the department since 2002. The purchase includes five pumpers and one aerial platform; all will be delivered in late 2016.
“We’re very excited that CCFR has once again selected Pierce, and has chosen the innovative Pierce Dash CF custom chassis for this complete fleet replacement order,” said Jim Johnson, Oshkosh Corporation executive vice president and president of the Fire & Emergency segment and Pierce Manufacturing. “CCFR’s decision to stay with Pierce and go with the Dash CF apparatus speaks volumes about our products, our people and the team at Schuhmacher Fire Equipment.”
“Each of our fire stations will receive a new Pierce Dash CF apparatus, and these new vehicles will improve our performance and emergency response capabilities, while enhancing firefighter safety,” said Brian Ochs, CCFR assistant fire chief and member of a nine person apparatus committee. “The Dash CF is a compact truck with a shorter, more maneuverable wheelbase, and yet can carry as much or even more equipment than our previous apparatus. Plus, the ergonomics are excellent, with everything lower to the ground so firefighters don’t have to climb up onto a truck to reach equipment or hose.”

Smeal Fire Apparatus Co. today announced that Fire Apparatus Solutions (FAS), the authorized sales and service dealer for Smeal, US Tanker and LTC brand apparatus in southern California, has expanded its territory to the entire state. This follows a merger with Smeal’s company-owned sales operation in northern California to expand its sales team and coverage. Joining FAS from the northern California sales operation, Scott Beck has been appointed sales manager and will lead sales and business development efforts for FAS.
“We are excited to be expanding our sales and business development efforts, to maintain and expand sales of Smeal, UST and LTC in our newly enlarged territory. Many California departments already recognize the exceptional customized designs, reliability and value of the Smeal family of fire trucks, and we’re looking forward to demonstrating that to more customers,” said William Kalmikov, FAS’ general manager.
