Mike Mason
Lieutenant Mike Mason is a 23 year veteran of the fire service. As an officer with DGFD he was initially assigned to Truck 1/ Squad 1 and is now currently assigned to Engine Co. 3 and heads the high rise districts and its policies for his department and all responding area departments. He is currently working on his Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration. He is a Certified Instructor III and Fire Officer II along with being a staff instructor for the Downers Grove Fire Academy and other academies throughout the state of Illinois.
Lieutenant Mike Mason is the author of Rapid Intervention Company Operations (R.I.C.O.) on Delmar Publications which is recognized as the largest and most comprehensive text available on Rapid Intervention. It is respected and used by many instructors from all over the country including some organizations overseas for its content and applicability in all areas of firefighter rescue.
Lieutenant Mike Mason has also originated the national program entitled R.I.C.O. (Rapid Intervention Company Operations) which utilizes an ever changing program involving the most up to date progressive procedures, maneuvers and techniques which are taught by some of the most prominent instructors in firefighter rescue from across the nation. It is always held the second week of June in the Chicago land area.
Lieutenant Mike Mason continually lectures as well as provides hands on training in the areas of rapid intervention, firefighter self survival, advance SCBA techniques and high rise firefighting to various departments and districts throughout the Midwest. He is also respected for his teachings, techniques and research in the areas of search in structural firefighting for both the civilian and downed firefighter. He is associated and involved with many instructors, lecturers and programs with various departments throughout the country. He has also authored many articles in various periodical publications.
Lieutenant Mike Mason is well known and enjoyed for his spirited involvement and belief in the firefighters he engages with whether it is hands on training or lecturing. He is currently developing and presenting another program in 2005 called copyright Company Officer Development/ Street World Leadership. In addition another long awaited text publication is also expected to be nearing completion entitled copyright Search in Structural Firefighting for The Civilian and Distressed Firefighter.
