Child Dies, Women Critical in Md. House Fire

Firefighters found the six-year-old child and the two women as they fought heavy fire in the one-story home in Chillum, Md.

CHILLUM, Md. (WUSA) -- One child is dead and two women are in critical condition after a house fire in the 2400 block of Griffin Street in Chillum, Md.

Prince George's Fire and EMS spokesperson Mark Brady says that firefighters found the six-year-old child and the two females as they fought heavy fire in the one-story home at approximately 3:45 am.

Fire officials say one female managed to escape the fire. The child and two females in critical condition were transported to a local hospital.

Officials say there was a lack of smoke alarms in the house.

A firefighter sustained some minor burn injuries and is expected to be treated and released from a Burn Unit today.

Fire Investigators will Continue to investigate a cause and origin of the fire. Preliminary fire loss estimates are $100,000.
