A Texas firefighter lost her left arm Thursday morning after she was struck by an 18-wheeler while assisting at the scene of a tanker explosion on I-105.

Pinewood firefighter Kimberly Huckabee was in surgery for several hours after the 5:30 a.m. wreck as surgeons attempted to reconnect her fingers on her right hand, according to the Beaumont Enterprise.

Theresa Wigley, of Hardin County Emergency Management, told reporters that she also suffered severe head injuries.

Troopers believe the driver of the tanker carrying crude oil that caught fire and exploded fell asleep.

Several subsequent crashes occurred after the tanker wreck including the one involving Huckabee.
