Fla. House Fire Causes $80,000 in Damages

-- Nov. 09--DESTIN -- A fire caused $80,000 in damage to a two-story home Wednesday morning. The blaze was reported about 10:20 a.m. at 426 Benning Drive near the intersection of Kelly Street, said Destin Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Urenda. No one was at home at the time. When firefighters arrived flames were shooting from the roof. Crews from Destin and Okaloosa Island entered the house to extinguish the blaze. No firefighters were injured.

Nov. 09--DESTIN -- A fire caused $80,000 in damage to a two-story home Wednesday morning.

The blaze was reported about 10:20 a.m. at 426 Benning Drive near the intersection of Kelly Street, said Destin Fire Department Battalion Chief Mike Urenda.

No one was at home at the time.

When firefighters arrived flames were shooting from the roof. Crews from Destin and Okaloosa Island entered the house to extinguish the blaze.

No firefighters were injured.

The fire was contained to the second story, but the entire house sustained smoke damage, Urenda said.

Firefighters left the scene about 2 p.m., but the cause of the blaze was still under investigation, he said.
