A Miami firefighter was robbed at gunpoint and shot at Sunday while checking on fire hydrants.

The suspect came behind the firefighter with a gun, saying he wanted the chain from his neck, authorities told WTVJ.

So, the firefighter took it off, threw it to the ground and started running. The suspect screamed for him to stop and then fired multiple shots, but missed, a spokesman told reporters.

"We checked him. He's shaken up but he's able to give the best description he can," Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Ignatius Carroll told the station.

Police are searching for the suspect.
