Trenton firefighters returned from a call Monday morning to discover that their station had been broken into and their personal items were stolen, according to The Trenton Times.
Fire Director Qareeb Bashir told the newspaper that thieves hit Engine 1 on Calhoun Street between 10:30 and 11 a.m. when firefighters were out.
The suspects entered through an unlocked window and took personal items belonging to the crew.
"We were just fortunate that they didn't take more," Bashir said.
There were several criminal acts that occurred in the month of October that appeared to target Trenton firefighters.
On Oct. 15, civilians attempted to steal a power cutting tool from the back of an engine at a fire scene and on Oct. 21, a teen hurled a concrete block at firefighters pumping water out of a basement.
"I don’t really look at it that we're being specifically targeted," Bashir said. "I think we do have the respect of the community."
Other firehouses in the city have been told to take precautions and the department is coming up with a plan to increase security at its engine and ladder companies.
