DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. --

One person was injured in a home explosion at a townhouse in Douglasville, according to the Douglas County Fire Department.

The incident happened at the Laura’s Manor complex on Dorsett Street around 3 p.m. The owner of the complex told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt the unit was unoccupied but identified the victim as a maintenance worker.

News Chopper 2 flew over the scene as firefighters doused hot spots from a fire after the explosion. The victim was taken to Grady Hospital to be treated for serious burns, firefighters said.

A unit, connected to four others, had largely collapsed, and one wall of the home was barely hanging on. Wreckage was scattered across the lawn, including a door that nearly reached the street.

Twelve other units were evacuated as a precaution. It is unclear what caused the explosion, but the owner told Cavitt there was a smell of gas before and after the explosion. The Atlanta Gas Light company was at the scene.
