Shooting Victim Pulled From Burning Kan. House

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Kansas City, Kan., police are now investigating after a man who had been shot was pulled from a burning home by firefighters Tuesday afternoon. Fire crews were called to the 2300 block of Merriam Lane about 2 p.m. Police said firefighters found a man inside while battling the fire and dragged him out. It was then discovered that the man had been shot. He was pronounced dead.

Kansas City, Kan., police are now investigating after a man who had been shot was pulled from a burning home by firefighters Tuesday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the 2300 block of Merriam Lane about 2 p.m.

Police said firefighters found a man inside while battling the fire and dragged him out. It was then discovered that the man had been shot. He was pronounced dead.

"From what I hear around the block, it sounds like he didn't make it," said neighbor Josh Olberding. "I don't know if it's smoke or fire related or something else. I've heard a couple of rumors on the block, and I'm not quite sure."

Gunshot Victim Dies In House Fire

Investigators said they don't know whether the man died from gunshot wounds or from the fire.

The man's name has not been released, but firefighters said he was a white man in his 50s.
