An off-duty Los Angeles firefighter lost an arm and a leg and another man was critically injured after an explosion tore through an alternative-energy company in Sylmar Tuesday afternoon, according to KABC-TV.
The blast occurred around 4:20 p.m. at the commercial building in the 12000 block of Gladstone Avenue.
Firefighter Timothy Larson, who was working at the business while off duty, was transported to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in critical condition.
The other critically injured victim has not been identified.
A third person sustained minor injuries, according to the report.
The blast created a giant hole in the roof of the building and witnesses told the news station they could feel the blast as far as a mile away from the site.
