A Clay Fire Territory station caught fire Tuesday night, and crews worked to save it from the flames, according to WBND-TV.
The fire began in the attic of Station 4 off of State Road 23 and Elm Road shortly before 5 p.m.
Officials told the news station that the result of the fire could have been worse if it occurred at night when the firefighters were sleeping or at a call.
"They were able to put the fire truck out and commence firefighting operations almost immediately and that's what really saved the fire station from burning down," Fire Chief John Vance said.
A construction crew had been working in the attic of the station earlier in the day and officials said that they were grinding metal and that is what most likely what started the fire.
Just a few weeks ago, Clay Fire Territory had another mishap when one of the department's engines collided with a police cruiser.
