SAN ANTONIO --

Fire investigators are looking into what sparked a fire at a North Side apartment complex that displaced eight families Friday morning.

The fire broke out after 1 a.m. in a downstairs unit of the Mediterranean Village Apartments in the 1500 block of Jackson Keller Road.

The man who lives in the apartment that caught fire and residents of about a half dozen other units had to leave their homes while firefighters battled the flames.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading beyond the original unit. However, residents of the other units had to find temporary shelter with the help of the American Red Cross.

An apartment resident said the man who lived in the burned apartment had been living there for 24 years and had been having electrical problems lately. The fire department, however, has not confirmed that was the case.

No injuries were reported.
