BROWNSVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. --
Three California Borough firefighters were injured early Sunday morning while battling a blaze.
Authorities said the fire started at about 1:30 a.m. in a duplex on Baltimore Street in Brownsville Borough.
Brownsville Fire Chief Clark Sealy told Channel 11 News that the floor collapsed, pinning one of the firefighters in the rubble.
"The bricks did fall on them. The floor collapsed, and we had one firefighter that was still pinned in the floor," Sealy said. "We had to actually dig him out to remove him from the rubble."
One firefighter was flown to UPMC Mercy Hospital and the other two were taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital by ambulance, Sealy said.
A woman who lived on one side of the home was able to get out in time and was not injured in the blaze, police said. The other side of the home was vacant, officials said.
All three firefighters were released from the hospital by Sunday afternoon.
"Fortunately the guys that were injured are home from the hospital and their injuries were not too serious," Sealy said. "They are at home resting."
Authorities said the blaze is being treated as suspicious, and the state fire marshal is investigating.
The damage was extensive, and the house will have to be torn down, officials said.
