SEATTLE --

A stolen vehicle crashed into a Seattle fire station as the driver attempted to elude police early Monday morning, Seattle Police Department spokeswoman Renee Witt said.

A man and a woman in the sport utility vehicle were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. No others were hurt in the collision, said Witt.

According to police, the incident started around 3 a.m. when a woman in the 800 block of Northeast 71st Street called 911 to say she heard someone drive away with her car.

When officers did an area check, they located the SUV in the University District near 11th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 47th Street.

When officers got behind the vehicle, the driver sped away. Officers followed. At Northeast 50th and 11th Avenue Northeast, the driver lost control and crashed into the fire station at 1050 Northeast 50th Street, said Witt.

The vehicle damaged one of the station’s garage doors, but the station remained fully operable, reported fire department spokesman Kyle Moore.
