HAMPTON, Va. --Two people were rescued from a house fire early Friday morning in the 700 block of Pocahontas Place.
Firefighters were called to the home shortly after midnight and found heavy smoke from the home when they arrived, said Lt. Anthony Chittum with the Hampton Fire Department.
"Residents weren't able to leave the residence due to heavy smoke," he said.
Firefighters entered the home and took the residents to safety. One resident was taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News with serious-to-critical injuries while the other had minor injuries, Chittum said.
The fire was out by 12:30 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
