Texas Firefighter Victim of Nev. Air Show Crash

A member of the Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department was one of the victims of a tragic air show crash in Reno, Nevada on Sept. 16, according to KTRK-TV. Craig Walter Salerno -- who was also a staff member of the Wings of Houston Air Show -- was killed when a 1940s-model plane crashed into the tarmac at the National Championship Air Races at the Reno Stead Airport. The P-51 Mustang called the Galloping Ghost disintegrated upon impact, killing 10 people and leaving dozens others injured.

Craig Walter Salerno -- who was also a staff member of the Wings of Houston Air Show -- was killed when a 1940s-model plane crashed into the tarmac at the National Championship Air Races at the Reno Stead Airport.

The P-51 Mustang called the Galloping Ghost disintegrated upon impact, killing 10 people and leaving dozens others injured.

Salerno a three-year veteran of the department and took on various responsibilities including the role of Small Engine Manager and handled maintenance and repair of a new fire station.

He previously served with the La Marque and League City volunteer fire departments and was a career firefighter with the Galveston Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife and two children.

The crash remains under investigation.
