No one was injured Saturday when a Detroit Fire Department ladder truck and a car collided on the city's east side.

The Ladder 23 fire truck was turning right at the intersection of State Fair and Gratiot at 1:12 p.m. when a car came up along the right side, Deputy Fire Commissioner Fred Wheeler said. The car hit the side of the fire truck, disabling the car and damaging the truck door, Wheeler said. The truck was drivable, he added.

No one was transported for medical treatment.

"Civilian vehicles should keep back 200 feet from a fire truck," Detroit Fire Commissioner Donald Austin said after the crash. "It would avoid exactly what happened. It's just for safety."

The Detroit Police Department is investigating the crash, Wheeler said. If the fire truck driver is found to be more than 50% at fault in the crash, the driver will undergo drug and alcohol testing and could be docked up to six hours of pay, Wheeler said.
