Mo. Rollover May Have Been Caused by Sneezing

Sept. 13, 2011

Reports detailing the rollover of a Springfield fire engine that injured three firefighters last week cite that it may have been caused by a sneezing fit, according to The News-Leader.

The Sept. 7 one-vehicle crash occurred after the driver veered out of the lane to the right after possible sneezing several times.

The apparatus ended up on its side.

Missouri Uniform Crash report filed by the Springfield Police Department listed a "physical impairment" as the cause of the incident.

Officials are waiting to speak to the engine's driver to determine what caused the crash.

Firefighter Paul McGuire remains in intensive care, but is showing improvement, Assistant Fire Chief randy Villines told the newspaper.

The two other firefighters onboard during the crash were interviewed by Fire Marshal William Spence.

Both said McGuire was sneezing and appeared to be staring off blankly before the crash.
