A pregnant woman, her husband and five children were displaced when the home they bought just days ago was consumed by fire Friday morning.
Clay County firefighters were called to the home in the 100 block of Walburg Street just before 7 a.m.
The home, valued at $80,000, sustained about $60,000 in damage, firefighters said.
The mother told fire officials that her family did not have insurance at the time of the fire.
One of the 28 firefighters battling the blaze was injured in the fire. No one else was hurt.
Fire officials said the firefighter fell through a porch that was under construction, possibly injuring his ribs and his arm. The firefighter was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
No working smoke detector was found following the fire.
The fire was reported under control at about 7:45 a.m. and was completely out at 10 a.m.
The cause of the blaze is believed to be electrical, due to the obvious damage outside the home where the panel box was located, fire officials said. The fire is under investigation by the state Fire Marshal's Office.
