The Burlington Northern Santa Fe-owned trestle, located about 1.5 miles south of Bellingham, is about 10 feet high.

BNSF officials said the fire started at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday and flames eight feet high were reported. The fire was put out early Tuesday, but the trestle remains closed.

Crews have been working to replace half of the rail and ties on the structure since it was closed last night and are expect to have the line back open by 2 p.m. Tuesday.

No cause has been determined.
