A retired FDNY lieutenant who struggled with the loss of his comrades in both 9/11 and the Deutsche Bank fire took his own life on Friday.
A retired FDNY lieutenant who struggled with the loss of his comrades in both 9/11 and the Deutsche Bank fire took his own life on Friday, according The Daily News.

Lt. John Garcia was a firefighter at Engine 68, Ladder 49 in the Bronx responded to the World Trade Center and was there when the towers fell.

He was assigned to Engine 24, Ladder 5 in Manhattan upon promotion and was working on Aug. 18, 2007 when two of his firefighters, Robert Beddia and Joseph Graffagino were killed in the Deutsche Bank fire.

Garcia retired in 2009.

"He felt powerless," a friend told the newspaper. "People needed help and he was a firefighter and he couldn't help them."
