ATASCOCITA, Texas --

A man found his son's body in the woods hours after he was killed in crash, deputies said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Bill Gonzales II, 23, was driving an Acura 3.5RL eastbound in the 2200 block of F.M. 1960 about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday.

Gonzalez lost control, crashed into a concrete culvert and the car rotated and rolled, investigators said. The car then went into the parking lot of Hole Shot, hit a metal pole, went airborne, hit a wooden utility pole and landed partially on a U-Haul car trailer, detectives said.

Deputies said they found one man, Eddie McPayne, laying outside the car. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he died.

"There were no indications that there was anyone else inside the vehicle," Atascocita Fire Department Asst. Chief. Mike Mulligan said.

About 13 hours later, Bill Gonzalez went to the scene because he thought his son may have been involved in the crash. Gonzalez looked around and found his son's body in a heavily wooded and overgrown area just east of the crash scene, deputies said.

"I walked the street and saw his shoe and jumped in and found him," Gonzalez said. "He's my only son, and I'm very proud of him."

Bill Gonzalez II was thrown more than 50 feet, investigators said.
