An off-duty Prattville firefighter's quick actions helped saved the lives of two people while he was on his way home, according to WSFA-TV.

Lt. Josh Brown was approaching Autauga County Road 57 when he noticed fire and smoke pouring from the windows of a home.

"I turned around and by that time, two volunteer firefighters were already here," he said.

Brown sprung into action and while assessing the situation from the outside of the home saw a woman and her granddaughter in a bedroom in the rear of the structure.

Both were bleeding and in shock, he told the news station. The entire home was filled with heavy smoke and he knew there was no time to waste.

"I grabbed a couple of chairs and I climbed through the window and handed the girl first to the volunteers and then handed the lady to them," he said.

The veteran firefighter refuses to take the credit for the rescue and says he couldn't have done it without the help of the volunteers from Booth and Kingston.

"It's all about teamwork and this is what we do."
