Gas Explosion Rocks Washington Building

LAKEWOOD, Washington -- A natural gas explosion has ripped through the Pierce Transit administrative building in Lakewood, the Lakewood Fire Department says. A quarter-mile area around the blast site is being evacuated, the department said. There is a bus barn at the location, as well, the fire department said.

A natural gas explosion has ripped through the Pierce Transit administrative building in Lakewood, the Lakewood Fire Department says. A quarter-mile area around the blast site is being evacuated, the department said.

There is a bus barn at the location, as well, the fire department said.

A worker at a nearby motel said that there was a loud explosion, followed by one or two more explosions about five minutes later. The worker said there were flames, but they later appeared to be put out.

A representative with Puget Sound Energy said a supervisor from the company is at the scene.
