Oregon Firefighters Battle Junkyard Blaze

Portland, Ore. -- With flames reaching as high as 25 feet, Portland Fire and Rescue battled a large fire at a junkyard Sunday morning. Crews told FOX 12 the fire orginated from a pile of 15 to 20 cars and other debris in the middle of American Compost and Recycling on North Columbia Blvd. Firefighters attacked the blaze from above using aerial ladders on a firetruck that are able to supply large quantities of water, authorities said.

With flames reaching as high as 25 feet, Portland Fire and Rescue battled a large fire at a junkyard Sunday morning.

Crews told FOX 12 the fire orginated from a pile of 15 to 20 cars and other debris in the middle of American Compost and Recycling on North Columbia Blvd.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from above using aerial ladders on a firetruck that are able to supply large quantities of water, authorities said.

Crews are still working to extinguish hot spots as they sift through the pile of cars using large equipment.
